One Night, Big Belly!

Well well well, you fell for title again didn’t you?  This time our friends in the East give us another botched translation for a movie.  This time the movie is Knocked Up.  It’s as if they want to give the movie away in the title or something.  Either way, the title seems like an appropriate depiction of the movie or the name of MTV’s next reality show starring Snooki.

One Night, Big Belly!  I so… would have seen that movie.

The one post you must read from my blog is “Why Harp 2.0 Will Not Work“.  You have to read this post for the epic video.  The video is from the t.v. show House of Lies on Showtime.  When I tell you it’s worth watching.. trust me it’s worth watching.  I guarantee it.. or your money back!

Quote of the Day

I love quotes especially inspirational ones. They are powerful Thomas English muffins of muffins of wisdom into 1-2 lines. Whenever I read them, I get so inspired to take action.

Here is my quote of the day!

“Those three things – autonomy, complexity and a connection between effort and reward – are, most people agree, the three qualities that work has to have if it is to be satisfying. It is not how much money we make that ultimately makes us happy between nine and five. It’s whether our work fulfills us.”  – Malcolm Galdwell

Now that’s powerful!

Money Fact!

In 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution made the income tax a permanent fixture in the U.S. tax system. The amendment gave Congress legal authority to tax income and resulted in a revenue law that taxed incomes of both individuals and corporations. In fiscal year 1918, annual internal revenue collections for the first time passed the billion-dollar mark, rising to $5.4 billion by 1920. With the advent of World War II, employment increased, as did tax collections—to $7.3 billion. The withholding tax on wages was introduced in 1943 and was instrumental in increasing the number of taxpayers to 60 million and tax collections to $43 billion by 1945.

Awesome Articles From Friends you need to read right now…

Below you will find the best of the best of the interwebs. Not only are these articles amazing, they demand your attention right now. Please, take some time to read the following articles. They will be of use to you. Trust me! I stayed at a Holiday inn express last night. I also own many leather bound books, which makes me an expert and need I say it? Sort of a big freaking deal!

Dr. Dean and his wife talk to us about gas mileage savings.  Dr. Dean and Mrs. Dean go back in forth discussing tips, tricks and myths of improving gas mileage.  The banter between them is worth the price of admission alone.

Sam and Financial Samurai talks to us about taxes.  He’s tired of paying so much, not  satisfied with the level of service he gets for taxed paid and wants to know if taxes are a form of charity.  Sometimes, I echo the same sentiment as Mr. Samuari.  But, then I realize taxes are what we pay to live in a civilized society.  My family also paid a kings ransom in taxes, yes it sux but, then I realized we pay a lot of taxes because we make a lot of money.  As my account once told me.. “If you don’t want to pay a lot of taxes don’t make a lot of earned income”

Paula one of my favorite bloggers on the low, talks to us about doing it yourself or delegating.  I’m a huge fan of delegating so I was naturally drawn to this article.  I believe one should focus on maximizing their time.  So, you should delegate as much as you can if it’s cost effect and can increase your bottom line or quality of life.

Another cool blogger A.Blinkin aka Funancials tells us why he doesn’t want to be debt free.  This probably sent shock waves through the personal finance world, since everyone seems to be so darn risk adverse.  I agree with him on the use of debt.  My student loans are at a 3.25% interest rate.  I make over 20% with real estate.  Seems like simple math to me.

  • I'm also a huge fan of delegating, which is why I let you write the good posts. By the way, One Night, Big Belly sounds like a stop-off at the Old Country Buffett. The sequel would be: One Night, Big Tums.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I wonder how much Snooki's OB is getting paid to deal with "all that"???

Malcolm Gladwell's books are a must read for all!

Over the last few weeks, I've read all of Gladwell's books. I agree with you, his books are a must read!

  • I actually just had some meetings at work where we talked about the benefits of greater control and autonomy in work compared to trying to get better performance from pay or bonuses. I think the Gladwell comment you put up there is right on. The research shows that you need to pay enough so that money isn't a worry, and after that, the other areas actually bring more happiness to employees. Great job YFS.

I completely agree with the research. This is the main reason why encyclopedia's failed and Wikipedia succeeded. Passion for a subject always wins in the long run.

  • One Night, Big Belly!…

Hahaha… well that is one way to think of it

  • Financial Samurai /

Let's start making just a little bit of money, at least in the government's eyes!!

LOL.. More money More problems, Sam.
